Everyday I catch a glimpse of this, hand painted pottery gift, that has been hanging in my kitchen window. It was given to me in the first lockdown from a friend. It’s good to have these reminders, it’s easy to forget gratitude, in a time of instability.
I read an article by Caitlin Moran, in The Times Magazine, she hit the nail on the head, the second lockdown was like a bad sequel to a film. On a positive note, weather wise, we had some good days, I dried washing outside in November, genuinely that gave me joy. I’ve learnt to celebrate the little things, but can’t deny, the summer lockdown, was lighter in so many ways, even with my kids at home for 6 months.
We’ve had our release from lockdown, into what, I am not sure? Town is packed, a good sign for the highstreet, not sure for virus spreading. I feel bad for the businesses that were forced to close again for 4 weeks, and the resulting redundancies and losses incurred by everyone. I can’t bear to buy from amazon, I’m shopping local, even though sometimes it’s more expensive, I don’t care, we’ll just have to have less.
Do we still have the same internal and external struggles as our ancestors? Acupuncture, Acupressure, Reflexology, Yoga, and many more disciplines are thousands of years old and yet still so widely used and applied to our modern world.
Yoga encompasses breath work and meditation, as well as the physical movement. There are lots of tools I use to compliment Yoga. Me and my daughter have a gratitude diary, it only takes a minute. I noted down 3 things I was grateful for today, a twix, Yoga and sunshine.
When we spend time thinking about what we don’t have, it takes our energy and time away from positive pursuits or thoughts. Thrive with the act of being grateful and appreciating what you have.
Learn to appreciate the tiny things, savour your cup of tea, listen to the birds, listen to your breath, it can take practice, there’s no rush. It’s hard to be down when you are appreciating and celebrating the little things.
This is all my own personal opinion, please take what you’d like to and leave what you don’t. Talk to me about Yoga Therapy, I am here to support you on your Journey. Namaste Katy
